Tanner

Tanner - Columbia-Greene Humane Society

Each week, Pets Fur Adoption features cats, dogs and other animals available for adoption or fostering through local shelters and rescues.

If getting a new pet was in your plans this year, why wait? Embrace the year with new responsibilities like a new dog. These three shelters have dogs of all ages, looking for a new family, here are six.

Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands

Capricorn, 10 months, male

capricorn dog

Capricorn is a young, active pup who loves to play. He loves treats and enjoys doing tricks for those treats, especially learning new ones if treats are involved. Capricorn is learning how to be calmer as he is still a younger pup. He would thrive in a home with older kids and might enjoy living with another dog, but with a meeting prior.

-

Lois, 1 year 7 months, female

lois

Lois is a younger, shy girl who’s looking for a family to bring her out of her shell. Once comfortable with others, she loves to play with toys, and earning treats. Lois could benefit from training to boost her confidence but also a calmer dog sibling might help too, with a meeting prior.

Adoption details: To adopt one of these dogs, one will fill out an Adopter Profile at the front desk and present a valid photo ID. Then an adoption counselor will share all we know about the dog before introducing you (all human and canine household members will need to meet the dog at the shelter.) If it is a good fit, in most cases the dog can go home the same day. For more information, visit their website.

Montgomery County SPCA, 1232 NY State HWY 5s, Amsterdam

Zeus, 10 months, male

zeus

Zeus was wandering alone and was brought to the Montgomery County SPCA in early October to find his forever home. A neutered black lab mix, he is a friendly boy who loves getting outside to explore and go for walks, and playing with his toys. He’s energetic and would be at his best with an active family. His dream forever home would have large yard to run around and play in.

-

Chapo, 2 years old, male

Chapo

Similarly to Zeus, Chapo was found wandering alone and was brought to the shelter. The poodle-mix is friendly and energetic. He loves going outside to explore, going on walks and getting all the attention. As he is energetic, he would do best in an active home with no small children but with a big yard to run around in.

Adoption details: To adopt one of these dogs, one should call the shelter, 518-842-8050, to set up an appointment. Then they should fill out the adoption application available on their website.

Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, 111 Humane Society Rd., Hudson

Tanner, 2 years 11 months, male

tanner

Tanner is an energetic dog who prefers human affection and love over toys. Although he is on the younger side, he would thrive in a household with older kids, as he doesn’t know his own size. Tanner is a Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and prefers to be alone as he likes the attention so a household without other dogs or cats would be best. One quirk Tanner has is he loves to lean up against his favorite person.

-

Ko, 1 year 10 months, male

Ko

Ko is a high energy, Pointer mix. He loves all toys and often gets the zoomies. Since he is a rambunctious dog, he would thrive in a active environment with older kids. Ko does get a long with both cats and dogs but can be nervous and selective around both.

Adoption details: To adopt one of these dogs, one should fill out the adoption application but also should bring two personal references, a veterinarian’s phone number, your landlord’s phone number (if you rent) and if you currently have pets, schedule a time to bring your pets to meet the new, adopted dog. More information on the adoption process can be found on their website.
