JOHNSTOWN — The Empire State Development Corp. board in early spring will review possible state financial assistance for Fulton County’s Hales Mills Road Extension waterline project.
County Planning Director Scott Henze reported to the Board of Supervisors’ Buildings and Grounds/Highway Committee Monday that the county will eventually submit for reimbursement for the waterline project.
The county last March created a water district for the Hales Mills Road Extension area of the town of Johnstown, and 6,075 linear feet of a new waterline was installed last summer.
In his monthly activities report, Henze said waterline construction is completed. He added that the state Department of Health on Nov. 1 issued a water supply ID number for the new water district. He said the Gloversville Water Department on Nov. 6 charged the new waterline, and final payments were made to contractor R.B. Robinson Contracting of Candor, N.Y. The company had been awarded a $690,340 bid.
But Henze said the state may have funding forthcoming to help pay for the project.
“They’re just starting that process,” he said.
Henze said his office provided the Empire State Development Corp. with all required information to be reviewed by its board of directors. He said that board is scheduled to review the materials March 29. Once that is approved, he said the county can submit for reimbursement.
A draft grant disbursement agreement will be prepared by the state, and the county will need to schedule a public hearing on ESD’s award of funds, Henze said.
In other planning activities discussed before the committee:
∫ Henze said 2018 county Planning Board training sessions are set for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Topics include: “Hot Button Planning Uses” and “Walkable Communities.”
“We usually have quite a few participants with that,” Henze said.
∫ Henze said the county is waiting on National Grid’s revised draft proposal for work at the Tryon Technology Park in Perth. Specifications were drafted for demolition and asbestos removal at four Tryon buildings. He said agreements were drafted for Dan’s Hauling and Demolition for the upcoming work.
“I have processed those agreements for signatures,” he said.
∫ The county is also working with others on a winter marketing video series, Henze said. The series will feature the following activities in Fulton County: ice fishing, cross country skiing, alpine skiing, snowmobiling, horse drawn sleigh rides, snowshoeing, ice skating and maple sugaring.
“We’ve been working with Shannon Rose on that,” Henze said.
