Each week, Pets Fur Adoption features cats, dogs and other small animals available for adoption or fostering through local shelters and rescues.

Shelters today, according to reporting by USA TODAY, are facing overcrowding and most dogs in shelters are young or high priced. The overcrowding can encourage potential owners seeking to adopt dogs to visit local shelters and rescues or to use adoption databases like AdoptAPet.com to find animals that need to be rehomed.

These four young dogs in local shelters are looking to be rehomed.

Dove, 3 years, female

Cream, 1 year, male

Montgomery County SPCA, 1232 State HWY 5S, Amsterdam

Cream

One-year-old Cream was found wandering all alone and came to the Montgomery County SPCA back in early May to find his forever home. A neutered lab/terrier mix, he is a friendly boy who enjoys getting outside to explore and play in the snow. He loves treats and playing with his toys. He has lots of energy and the shelter believes he would do best with an active family who has a big yard so he can run around. He’ll be a loving and loyal family member.

Adoption details: To adopt one of these dogs, one should call the shelter at 518-842-8050 to set up an appointment. Then, fill out the adoption application available on the shelter website.

Nova, 2.5 years, female

Fulton County Regional SPCA, 117 West Fulton St., Gloversville

Nova

Nova is a elegant, stunning and poised pet who turns heads in every room she enters. According to the shelter, her style and grace is only topped by her personality. She has a playful personality and will keep whoever on their toes. Nova is also good with other dogs and children.

Adoption details: The first step is to fill out an online application. Only after an application is accepted will the shelter make an appointment for you and your family to come meet the animal(s) you are interested in adopting. Visit their website for more information.

Niles, 3 years, male

Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands

Niles

Niles has lots of energy, enough that he loves to bounce and is often compared to a bunny. Niles enjoys pets and cuddles, but the shelter believes he would do best with older children. It also believes he would benefit from training classes to help them become best friends and with his hyperactivity.

Adoption details: One will fill out an adopter profile at the front desk and present a valid photo ID. Then, an adoption counselor will share all that is known about the dog before introducing you (all human and canine household members will need to meet the dog at the shelter). If it is a good fit, in most cases, the dog can go home the same day. For more information, visit the shelter website.
