Thursday’s pick of the day

The Kite Runner at Proctors.

Based on the best selling novel, The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir while he grows up in Afghanistan amid an ever changing cultural climate. Themes of community, friendship and fatherhood are prevalent in this work sure to move the Proctors audience. Tickets for Thursday’s 1:30 p.m. show start at $25 and can be purchased at tickets.proctors.org

  • The Saratoga Springs City Library will host a local history fair from noon to 4 p.m. on May 2 in the Harry Dutcher Community Room, 49 Henry St. The event will feature representatives from Greater Capital District organizations specializing in genealogical research, history, preservation and more.

  • Bluegrass fans will be delighted to see the Kreuger Brothers belt their folksy tunes at Caffe Lena on Thursday. The Swiss-Amercian duo will preform from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $41 and can be purchased on the Caffe’s website. Caffe Lena is located at 47 Phila St. in Saratoga Springs. 

Friday’s pick of the day

Dan Navarro at Caffe Lena

The Saratoga Springs venue will host Dan Navarro for back-to-back events on Friday. For a deeper look into the artist’s craft, join him at the Caffe for a songwriting session from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost is $75 for the peak behind the curtain. If you’re not so sing-songy yourself, catch Navarro’s performance at 8 p.m. for $24. Tickets for both can be purchased at caffelena.org.

  • The Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association (BSBPA) will hold the “School Art in the Community” First Friday event from 4-7 p.m. on May 3 in downtown Ballston Spa. The event will include art displays, food and drink specials at participating shops and is a collaboration between the BSBPA and the Ballston Spa Central School District. The Malta Ave Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind team will hold an ice cream fundraiser from 4:30-7 p.m. in Wiswall Park with all proceeds going towards their trip to World Finals in Ames, Iowa.   • The Insolent Willies will perform a concert at 7 p.m. on May 3 at the Glove Theatre 42 N. Main St. as part of The Glove’s new “518 Concert Series.” 21+ to drink with valid ID. Tickets are available at https://www.ticketstripe.com/518willies

Saturday’s pick of the day

Sheer Mag at No Fun in Troy

Sheer Mag is a rock band formed in 2014 with 1970s influence and a penchant for punk ethos. The crew met while studying at SUNY Purchase. Led by Tina Halladay, the band will perform its recently released album “Playing Favorites.” Tickets are $18 in advance and can be purchased at nofuntroy.com. Admittance is $22 at the door. The show runs from 7 to 11 p.m. and joining Sheer Mag are fellow bands Flavour and Mystery Girl.

  • Classic Theater Guild will present "Isolde'' at 3 p.m. on Sunday in its theater space at Congregation Beth Israel, located at 2195 Eastern Pkwy. The comedy is written and directed by local playwright James Callaghan. It follows a princess who refuses to remain silent toward her kingly father and instead chooses to become a warrior. Donations are welcome. 

  • The Musicians of Ma'alwyck will present “Forbidden Music Regained” at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road. The concert features Dutch composers who were persecuted in WWII. General admission tickets are $40, $10 for students and $30 for members of Congregation Beth Emeth.
