Cheers and jeers
CHEERS — To future JK (Joanne Kathleen) Rowlings. Recently, the Friends of the Johnstown Library held a book-writing contest. Eight young woman put pen to paper, more likely fingers to keyboards, and entered. Congratulations to Jenna Salisbury, Kara Gargiulo, Saije Ney, Skylar Swatt, Serena Smith, Erica Askew, Maria Licciardi and Morgan Swedick for sharing their talents. Serena took the first-place honors with her entry of “One of a Kind Puppy.” Next time, let’s hope for some future Stephen Kings. JEERS — To no Flame. In late August, a crew from “Good Morning America” came to Gloversville and filmed Flame performing. The piece was tentatively scheduled for Sept. 16 but did not air. It still hasn’t, and that’s too bad. The band, made up of Lexington residents, deserves to have that national moment. Nevertheless, Flame, your hometown fans continue to applaud you. CHEERS — To Jennifer Rowland. Jen is another transplant to our area who we would like to cheer.
