Local high school football season opens tonight
Three local football teams stay local this week and open the 2008 season in friendly confines. Today, Johnstown will host Cohoes at 7 p.m. and Canajoharie will host Saratoga Catholic at 7:30 p.m., Dolgeville will host Mohawk at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Taking to the road for 7 p.m. games today, Gloversville travels to Mohonasen, Fonda-Fultonville to Catholic Central, Amsterdam to Bishop Maginn and Broadalbin-Perth to Hudson. Cohoes at Johnstown, 7 p.m. today Johnstown and Cohoes had similar 2007 results, with Johnstown finishing 2-6 and Cohoes 3-5 overall. Sir Bills coach Bob Kraemer said the Tigers have gotten better over the last couple seasons and should challenge Johnstown. “They look like a pretty good football team,” he said. “They had a good season last year and I know they’re very improved from two years ago. I think they definitely are still improving, so it’s going to be a tough football game.
