Schools of Thought: Foothills to test the resolute
Playtime’s over, a new year’s upon us and the bulk of the Foothills Council schedule lay before the Gloversville boys’ and Johnstown girls’ basketball teams. The Dragons and Lady Bills have proven to be two of the top local teams so far this season, but their upcoming schedule will provide a better gauge of how good they might be. Some coaches like to put articles like this up on a bulletin board in the locker room or somewhere the players will see it. It usually isn’t a direct challenge, but the coach will sell it like that. This one is exactly that. So far, both teams have done what they should. They beat the teams they should beat and added a couple “feather-in-the-cap” victories. It gets tougher now. Now we will get some indication of how these two squads might fare in the postseason. Now, there can be no off nights. Every team on the schedule will take advantage of an off night and the loser will move one rung down the sectional seeding ladder.

Steven Hall (Johnstown) won the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke, helping the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute men’s swimming and diving team to a first-place finish at the Liberty League championship meet.
