ITHACA — Erica Cutspec came into the Ithaca softball program with three other freshman infielders, and as their collegiate careers are coming to a close, Cutspec is leaving her mark on not only the Bombers’ program, but the Empire 8 conference as a whole.

“It was fun and exciting,” said Cutspec, who joined the team in 2005 with fellow infielders Jessica Stangarone and Stacey Pelesz, pitchers Nicole Cade and Carly Myers, and outfielder Amanda Kowalsick. “They’re my best friends. To remember what we were like being freshmen, it’s cool to see where we were then and where we are now.”

Right now, they’re one win away from a berth in the 2008 NCAA Division III World Series and are looking to end their careers with a national championship.

The Bombers need a win in today’s second game, where they’ll face the winner of the opening game between Bethany and Rochester, to advance to the eight-team championship tournament, which will take place in Salem, Va.
