JOHNSTOWN — The introduction of two new large food processing industries at the Johnstown Industrial Park have given the area’s economy a shot in the arm the last few years. That trend is due to continue in 2008.

With the decline of the local leather industry, newer companies such as Turkish cheese company Euphrates Inc. and Fage USA, a Greek yogurt company due to open early this year, already have made their mark on the area.

The Euphrates cheese plant has been online for a few years now, and the area is getting ready for Fage USA — a large plant that is expected to employ 80 to 100 workers.

Fage is the second-largest food producer and leading dairy company in Greece. The company has 26 product lines and markets under 53 brand names.
