February 5, 2013

Inside the borders of Montgomery County sit one city and a total of 20 villages and towns. That’s 21 municipalities — hamlets not included — serving a population of 50,219 people as of the 2010 U.S....

Sounds like the "rebirth" of Tryon County.

Why can't we save $80,000 a year by outsourcing Jonny Stead's job? Why not pay his counterpart in Montgomery county to cover both counties? That's right the Buddies on the BOS wouldn't do that to him! He's special! Trim the fat at the top and save taxpayers even more money then the nickel and dimes from an hourly employee!

Merger County departments together with their sister department in Montgomery county. We have way too many Department heads that basically watch one person work and they get a fat paycheck while the person doing all the work fears their job will be the next one cut. How many managers have been given the pink slip due to budget cut backs? ZERO! As CSEA how many members they have lost, more than ZERO!

Annarondac, yep Fulton County is too top heavy but they never cut them. Lets see we consolidate all Fulton County School Districts in to one Large district look at the number of Superindents salaries you save on! Consolidate Johnstown & Gville Fire and police you wouldn't need two chiefs.

There is a lot that city and town have to offer than social services, just like the county offers more than just social services. Fonda was chosen as the county seat because it's centrally located in the county, despite the majority of people living in the eastern half of the county. Hard to believe, but there is a more to Montgomery County than Amsterdam.

So what do you do with the several office buildings, entire departments, court houses, etc., in Fonda? Just move them to Amsterdam? That would cost a lot of money and would probably negate any savings (which haven't even been proven) right off the bat.

Both the City and Town of Amsterdam should merge. The County seat should relocate to Amsterdam, the most populous entity of Montgomery County. This would save taxpayer money transporting the majority of Social Service recipients from Amsterdam to Fonda and back.

Agreed. What needs to happen is to put elected people in office that favor consolidation not their office and position. The size of government in Fulton County is 5 times what it should be, and the taxes show it.

Problem is politics in my opinion. Too many chiefs who don't want to give up their positions. It would make a lot of sense to the taxpayers for consolidations. If something is not done the whole area will be a "ghost town".
