Richard A. ‘Dick’ Johnson

Richard A. “Dick” Johnson, 74, a longtime Lassellsville resident, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

He was born January 20, 1934 in the Town of Ephratah, NY, the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Dineen) Johnson, and was a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of 1952.

He was married to Patricia Cool on June 28, 1958 in Lassellsville, NY.

Mr. Johnson was an Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict, enlisting on November 10, 1953 and was honorably discharged on October 29, 1955 with the rank of Corporal. During his service, he served on the Fire Battalion in Panama.

Dick was last employed as a truck driver for Desormeau Vending in Latham, NY and attended Scotchbush Free Methodist Church. Dick was also a member of St. Johnsville American Legion, Post 168 and the RGL Volunteer Fire Department.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting with special nephew, Jimmy Johnson Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia; three daughters, Denise Sherman of Lassellsville, Jeny Rockwell and husband David of Edinburg and Kim Chambers and husband Scott of Unadilla, NY; two brothers, William Johnston of St. Johnsville and James Johnson of St. Johnsville; a sister, Karen Covert of Trumansburg, NY; six grandchildren, Erik, Alex and Tracy Rockwell, Justin Sherman, Krystal (Matt) Smith and Cherice Chambers; three great-grandchildren; a mother-in-law, Frances Cool of Lassellsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Davis.

In keeping with Dick’s wishes, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY.
