JOHNSTOWN - Susan McNeil defeated a Gloversville supervisor and a former Fulton County Republican Club chairman to be elected the Fulton County Republican Committee's new chairwoman Monday.

The former Perth Republican chairwoman vowed to promote the tenets of the Republican Party during her two-year term. She takes the place of Dexter Risedorph, who served for the past two years.

"I have no personal agenda," she said before her election. "I have the Republican agenda."

McNeil defeated Gloversville 3rd Ward Supervisor Michael Gendron and Johnstown Councilman-at-Large Bryan Marcucci, a former Republican Club chairman, in the election at the Fulton County Courthouse.

Before the vote, the three candidates spoke about their qualifications to the 42 committee members present in the courthouse.

Gendron stressed his experience in government and standing as a "moral and honest person."

"This is the right time for me [to be chairman]," he said.

McNeil began her speech by reciting the goals and beliefs of the Republican Party, as written on the Republican National Committee Web site, saying she believes government is best which governs least.

She said she vowed to present the concerns of Fulton County Republicans to lawmakers at the state level.

"I will bring the voice of Fulton County to Albany," she said.

Marcucci, who said he has organized events for the Republican Party, including a golf tournament and a picnic, said his main

objective would be to bring younger people into the party fold.

After the 42 members voted and McNeil was elected, she thanked fellow Republicans and promised to do her best.

The other officers were elected without opposition. Robert Dugan was elected first vice chairman, Margaret Luck and Gendron were elected 2nd vice chairmen, Karen Smith was elected secretary and Bruce Ellsworth was elected treasurer.
