Class of ’54 donates $200 to senior center

GLOVERSVILLE - The Gloversville High School class of 1954 had its 55th reunion weekend Aug. 14 through 16.
Aug. 14 night included an informal get-together at Harold's Restaurant. The committee welcomed those attending. The committee members were Beverly Brown Barkevich, Ann Lee Vonderache Clough, Carol Chetwynd Coon, Katherine D'Errico Cozzolino, Frank Malagisi, John Sweeney and Carol Compani Visconti.
On Aug. 15, a clambake took place at Mary Ann's Restaurant with 76 in attendance.
Sweeney, president of the class, welcomed those who attended. He mentioned the classmates who travelled the farthest, Lois Helwig Lynch and Marion Lair Selover from California. Barkevich gave them a prize.
Sweeney mentioned that Edward Dugan, who taught 11th and 12th grade American history at Gloversville High School, died Feb. 8.
Ann Lee Clough, vice president of the class, read the names of the 57 deceased classmates.
Coon entertained by telling jokes.
The 50-50 raffle tickets were sold by Malagisi and Cozzolino to benefit the Senior Citizens Service Center of Gloversville & Fulton County. The $200 raised was given to Catherine Mueller, director of the center, by Coon and Visconti.
Beverly Gage Damiano and Leo Visconti were the winners of ladder ball and were given prizes.
Kelley, Clough, John and Valerie Evans Rathbone and Coon won the honorable mention.
A vote was taken by Sweeney and Clough from the classmates who attended and all were in favor to have a 60th reunion in 2014.
On Aug. 16, the weekend ended with a brunch at 10 a.m. at the home of Ann Lee and David Clough.
