Injury study warranted
POSTED: October 30, 2009
Too often, members of Congress throw their weight around improperly. The insistence of some lawmakers on ordering changes in how the college football championship is handled is an example.
But on another football-related matter, Congress is absolutely right to get involved - if only to get the facts.
U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., said this week he wants a congressional study of football injuries at all levels, including high school. Like us, Conyers is concerned about a recent study of the effects of head injuries on football players.
Congress should not be setting the rules for any sport, of course. But Conyers is right in wanting to provide the public with more information.

I think congress has better things to do, but as long as they waste time on this foolishness they won't be stuffing some health care unreform down our throats.

The helmet was designed to protect players, but those same players have turned it into a weapon. In short, players make the game more vicious than it need be, but that's improving with NFL regulations.
