State should cover tax bill
Why should the counties be required to pay school taxes on land the state Department of Environmental Conservation has determined to be state forest preserve?
The permit areas on the Great Sacandaga Lake can't be classified as state forest preserve if the counties are responsible for paying the delinquent Hudson River-Black River Regulating District school taxes. If this land is really a state forest preserve, the state should pay these taxes.
If the DEC is really serious about this land being state forest preserve, then it has no choice but to recommend that the state pony up the money to pay the overdue school taxes. Just some food for thought.
