Boy Scouts plan food drive Nov. 14

POSTED: November 5, 2009

Area Boy Scout troops soon will take part in Scouting for Food 2009, the Boy Scouts of America's Good Turn for America service project.

Scouts will collect food in their communities to be given to local food banks for distribution to families in need.

This Saturday, they will go door-to-door distributing information announcing the campaign, and they will return Nov. 14 to pick up donated items on people's doorsteps.

After collecting donations from residents, Scouting groups are responsible for distributing the collected food to area food banks and pantries.

Items to be collected include non-perishable canned goods such as vegetables, soups, chili and baby formula.

Non-perishable boxed items such as pasta also are welcome. No frozen items or glass containers will be collected.

Residents are asked to place items being donated outside their front doors in plain sight from the street by 9 a.m. on Nov 14.

For more information, call Steve Silverman at 869-6436, Ext. 40.
