Recognize the caregivers
At this time of year, we celebrate the change of seasons, exciting sporting events and holidays shared by many. It is also a time that we should acknowledge those special individuals - family caregivers, who day in and day out provide hands-on care, emotional support, general assistance like marketing or rides to the post office or hair dresser, and love to people who cannot totally care for themselves.
Family caregivers are those who might miss work because they need to be with their loved one at a medical appointment, who might be multitasking by working full time, raising a family, as well as caring for a disabled, elderly or frail friend or family member.
This month, please take some time to acknowledge the people you know who are family caregivers by offering to help them. Bring them dinner, offer transportation or just listen.
If you are a caregiver, remember these four things: Believe in yourself, protect your health, reach out for help and speak up for your rights. If you need support, please call the Fulton County Office for the Aging at 736-5650.
Thank you to all family caregivers in Fulton County who help keep their loved ones safe and living in their homes and to those who are helping to support other choices made for health and safety reasons.
