Area Racing Roundup: Sowle posts Glen Ridge win

FULTONVILLE - JaMike Sowle claimed his second modified win of the season Friday at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.

It was the sixth career win for Sowle at Glen Ridge.

Erik Nelson was second, Paul Kinney was third, Jackie Brown was fourth and Craig Hanson completed the top five. Rounding out the top 10 were, Pep Corradi, John Lutes Jr., Jeff Sheely, Jimmy Davis and Richie Price.

In the sportsman feature, D.J. Brundige claim his first career Glen Ridge victory.

Laudy Hoyenga was second, Greg Pessolano was third, Tony Farone was fourth and Eric Mack was fifth.

Walt Brownell posted his second win of the season in the pro stock class. Jeremy Pitts was second, Buddy Hencke was third, Ivan Joslin was fourth and Brad LaFountain was fifth.

In the street stock division, Rob VanAernam picked up the win with Justin Knight coming home second. Dennis Joslin was third, Darrell Older was fourth and Dave Pope completed the top five.

In the rookie sportsman division, Roger Newkirk Jr. picked up the win. Mike Allery was second, Randall Sousie was third, Justin Forsthoffer was fourth and Melony Coons was fifth.

Kerrie Hollenbeck won his sixth feature of the season in the cruiser A feature, while Jay Ingersoll posted his second win of the season.

In the cruiser B feature, Ron Case claimed his second win of the season.

Glen Ridge will be back in action next Friday night with a regular show. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Christian earns second CRSA win

AFTON - The Capital Region Sprint Agency returned to the I-88 speedway in Afton on Friday night.

There last visit was Oct. 27, 2006 when Jeff VanSteenburg picked up the win. On this night, it was a former sportsman driver at the speedway taking the checkered flag.

Jamie Christian, of West Winfield, won the 25-lap event to score his second win during his rookie season in a sprint car.

Chuck Alessi, of Middletown, finished second with hometown driver, Phil Peworchik Jr. finishing third, Matt Tanner of East Berlin in fourth while Ryan Smith completed the top five positions.

The CRSA feature was halted by a red flag on lap 19 when Warren Alexson flipped off the speedway surface in turn one. Alexson flipped through the catch fence and over the banking His No. 3a was destroyed but he was able to walk away from the incident.

The CRSA series will be back in action June 24 at Utica-Rome Speedway.

Madsen wins pair at Dodge City

COBLESKILL - Dale Madsen picked up two wins Friday at Dodge City Speedway.

Madsen won the senior heavy and Briggs senior divisions.

Also claiming victories were Jim Mauceri (kid kart), Richie Gaige (junior I sportsman), Joe Leichenhauer (junior I sportsman), Brian Nelson (junior II gold), Connor Cleveland (junior II advanced), Brian Rose (senior lite), Steve Smith (senior super heavy), Kyle Weiler (KT-200 two-cycle) and Taylor O'Connor (slingshots).
