James W. Romaine, age 80, of Ohatchee, Alabama, formerly of Gloversville, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at home, from injuries he received in a tornado.
He was born in Gloversville on May 15, 1930, a son of the late James Romaine and Hattie Bushnell Romaine.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
He worked as a self-employed painter and was known as "Jim the painter."
His companion, Arvella Jones, also perished with him in the tornado.
Survivors include: one son, James Romaine Jr.; three daughters, Ruth Rivera, Anna Romaine and Cynthia Dingman; grandchildren, Theresa Romaine, Heather Romaine, Mathew Rivera Jr., Katlynn Rivera, Taylor Rose, Ashley M. Dingman, Alesia Dingman, and Samantha Dingman.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Ruth Romaine; one brother, Robert Wagner; and a sister, Harriet Lee.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday at 4 p.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Friends and family may call on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
