Michael G. Krom

Michael G. Krom, 52, of Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany following a lengthy illness.

Michael was born in Gloversville, N.Y. on September 25, 1959, the son of Robert H. and Rita Knope Krom. He was a lifelong area resident and was a 1977 graduate of Amsterdam High School. He went on to receive degrees from FMCC in 1979 and SUNY Plattsburgh in 1981. He then received his Master's Degree in Social Work from SUNY Albany in 1983.

He began his career at Lexington Center in Gloversville, N.Y. He was most recently employed as a Social Worker for over 15 years at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed music and was an avid Yankees fan. He was also a member of several professional associations.

Michael is survived by his parents, Robert and Rita Krom of Martinsville, Va.; and three brothers, R. Thomas Krom (Doris) of Hagaman, N.Y., William P. Krom (Lori) of Norwich, N.Y. and Tracey J. Krom (Lisa) of Hurley, N.Y.; and two sisters, Jennifer Krom-Armer (Bill Armer) of Mayfield, N.Y. and Patricia A. Quigley (Joe) of Gloversville, N.Y. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Stacy and Stephanie Krom, Gunner and Nathan Krom, John and Matthew Krom, Frank and Alex Szyjkowski and Colin and Erin Quigley. Aunts and uncles, John Knope, Josephine Knope, John and Nancy Krom and George Krom; and many cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held today, September 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams presiding. The calling hours were held on Sunday, September 16, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to the National Brain Tumor Foundation, both c/o the funeral home office. Interment will be in Hagaman Cemetery at a later date.
