Mrs. Eleanor G. Getman, 90 years old, of Hickory Hill Road, Fonda, N.Y., died Friday at Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville. She was born December 21, 1921, in Amsterdam and was a lifelong resident of the Fonda area. Mrs. Getman was a self-employed hairdresser for many years.
She was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church and had taught Sunday School and also sang in the choir. Mrs. Getman was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star, Proto Club, Mohawk Valley Chorus and the Colonial Little Theatre.
Eleanor married Victor Getman on September 29, 1948. He died March 9, 1996. She is survived by three sons, Brian Calhoun of Glen, Darrell B. Getman of Fonda and Kevin Getman of Canajoharie; six grandchildren, Todd Calhoun, Kadrin Anderson, Leah Schaffer, Jillian Getman, Hayley and Darrell J. "D.J." Getman; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, with the Rev. Jay Hine officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
