GLOVERSVILLE - City police have charged two teenage girls in the assault of a local woman - an attack that was caught on video and got attention on the Internet last week.
Police said the department was alerted Thursday to the video, which depicted a woman being beaten by two other females on the Rail Trail.
Police said they don't know who filmed the video footage but said the person who put it online was one of the perpetrators. The original video is no longer online.
An investigation revealed the victim was a 47-year-old city woman who was chased and beaten by the two girls, ages 14 and 15, police said.
The victim suffered no serious injuries other than a bloody nose and would not cooperate with the investigation, requesting no further police action be taken on her behalf, said Police Chief Donald VanDeusen.
Police said detectives identified the juveniles and interviewed them at the Police Department on Friday afternoon.
"Based on what we gathered from the video and their statements, both juveniles are going to be petitioned to Family Court on charges of juvenile delinquency," VanDeusen said. "The underlying charge for the juvenile delinquency [would be] attempted assault if they were adults."
The chief said no further information could be released because of the suspects' ages.
