Dennis Jon Alter, 71, of Northville, N.Y., died Saturday, October 27, at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home. Dennis was born on November 27, 1940, the son of the late Daniel and Nancy Benson Alter. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Heather Alter Gabeler; and his precious grandson, Brandon Heroth, who he was so very proud of. He is also survived by his brother, Mike (Judy) Alter of Northville; his niece, Molly (Rob) Whittaker and their children; and his nephew, Matthew (Dorothea) Alter and their children; as well as cousins, and many faithful and longtime friends including Fran Wells, Larry Bero and Bill Mosher.
Denny attended Northville Central School. He worked as a carpenter and a mason, but found his niche as an extremely gifted mechanic on all types of engines. He worked for the former Ford, Chevrolet and Burlingame Garages in Northville, and later opened up "Denny's Small Engine Repair Shop" in the garage behind his family home, which he ran for many years. Many good friends gathered there each day for a cup of coffee and to "kibitz."
