GLOVERSVILLE - Former Northville school district Superintendent Kathy Dougherty was appointed by the Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education to serve as an interim principal at the Park Terrace Elementary School when Stephen Pavone retires at the beginning of December.
Dougherty, a longtime area educator, will fill the position while the search gets underway for a permanent candidate for the job.
Her appointment runs through the end of June, a news release said.
GESD Superintendent of Schools Michael Vanyo said the district will seek parent and community input in the hiring of a new principal for the school.
"I am certain Mrs. Dougherty's presence will greatly contribute to the learning environment for our entire elementary community," Vanyo said in a news release. "We look forward to her leadership as we seek a permanent candidate."
Dougherty has 35 years of experience in education. She retired as the superintendent of the Northville Central School earlier this year. Prior to leading the Northville schools, Dougherty was a music teacher and elementary school principal in the Greater Johnstown School District.
"I am very honored the board selected me for this very important position, and I look forward to working with the school community as the board seeks the next principal," Dougherty said.
