Thomas A. ‘Popie’ Duffy

Thomas A. "Popie" Duffy, 98, of the Lassellsville, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born November 1, 1914, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of the late Martin and Julia (Sheehan) Duffy and was educated in Dickerson High School in New Jersey.

His marriage to Alma Brown took place on September 6, 1941. The couple shared a blessed union of 59 years until the passing of Alma on May 31, 2000.

Tom worked at the shipyards during the war then went on to become an iron worker for many years in New Jersey. He worked on skyscrapers and apartment buildings and was also part owner of Duffy's Tavern in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Thomas was an avid family man whose life was centered around his family. His passion was the RGL Volunteer Fire Co., where he served for over 30 years. In his leisure he enjoyed baseball and football.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen Vicciarelli and husband, William of St. Johnsville; his cherished grandchildren, Cynthia A. Gee and husband, Doug, Alison E. O'Dell, and Kerry L. Claus and Paul Rubas; his loving great-grandchildren, Devin M. Gee, Corissa L. Gee, Brody C. Claus, Troy T. Claus, Connor S. Claus, and Alexsandra K. Dobson.

He was predeceased by a son, Thomas G. Duffy, in 1993.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012, at 9:15 a.m. from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 518-568-7040, and at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of Hope Church, Fort Plain, N.Y. where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Reverend Dennis Murphy, pastor. Burial will be at St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday, November 25, 2012, from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the RGL Volunteer Fire Department, 4833 State Route 29, Johnstown, NY 12095.
