Bernard H. Plantz, age 89, of Johnstown, passed away on Thursday November 22, 2012, at the Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness.
He was born on March 29, 1923, in Amsterdam, a son of the late John Stewart Plantz and Nina Lotridge Plantz.
He served his Country in the US Army from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1947.
Mr. Plantz started working with his father painting houses and later worked at the Felt Shu Company as a foreman. He then worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady as a lathe operator until his retirement in 1983.
Bernard was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Johnstown.
He was a master wood worker making furniture, grandfather clocks, picture frames and novelties, he would also refinish antiques, read, play cards, fish, and visit his camp at Lake Edward.
He was predeceased by his first wife whom he married in 1949 Theresa Velicky Plantz she died in 1980. He then was united in marriage to Lucille Cromer Mulvey Plantz in 1983.
Survivors in addition to his wife are his stepson Richard Mulvey and wife Jane; grandson Justin Mulvey and a sister Jean Persch.
He was predeceased by a brother, James Plantz, and a sister, Elizabeth Plantz Nellis.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church 1 West Montgomery Street, Johnstown. The Rev. David Almleaf will officiate.
Visitation for friends and family will be on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
