Norma Q. Banta, 85, of Lakeview Road, Broadalbin, died Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Canajoharie on July 7, 1927, a daughter of LeRoy and Marian Sweet Quackenbush and was a 1943 graduate of Canajoharie High School. Norma lived in Gloversville before moving to Broadalbin in 1977.
Mrs. Banta was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church and of the Miriam Class at church.
She was a 4-H leader when her children were younger. Mrs. Banta was a member of the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She enjoyed playing the piano but mostly, she loved spending time with family and friends.
She was married to Harold W. Banta on January 5, 1946. He died June 1, 2001.
Survivors include a son, Craig (Kathy) Banta of Rockledge, Fla.; three daughters, Harlene (Herbert) Bachorik of Rotterdam, Candace (Robert) Bachorik of Ellsworth, Maine, and Lori A. Banta of Broadalbin; ten grandchildren, Marc Bachorik, Eric Bachorik, Rob Bachorik, Diana Daigle, Kari Banta, Debbie Ronca, Pamela Bouchard, James Banta, Amy Blanc, and Beth LaVada; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Broadalbin United Methodist Church, 67 North Main Street, with Rev. Bill Delia officiating. A calling hour will be held at church beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown.
