This letter is in response to Shelly VanNostrand's letter to the editor in defense of Ralph VanAlstyne Sr.
Mr. VanAlstyne is a black-hearted, vile human being who stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
Instead of two years, he should have received the maximum sentence.
The VFW post in Gloversville did not recover and the members recently voted to close its doors. All the years of community service - the honor guard, countless donations, parades, adult services - all down the drain.
This disgusting human being methodically worked his way into a position of trust and stole them blind - a man who would put his arm around you with one hand and stab you in the back with the other. He stole from disabled veterans, for God's sake.
The sad truth is this: His boots will hit the street within a year and the VFW post will be closed forever. That is sad and breaks my heart.
