Senior group reports on meeting

GLEN - The following items are for the Glen-Mohawk Seniors.

The regular meetings of the Glen-Mohawk Seniors were both opened by Charlene Pollock, president. This was followed by a prayer said by Allan Taylor, the Pledge of Allegiance, and singing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" with Barbara Furman at the piano. Jean Denero was a guest both weeks.

On Nov. 20: The speaker for the day was Laurie Murphy, who is a surgical nurse at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady. The topic was stroke awareness. Murphy gave a presentation on what causes a stroke and what to do if one should occur. After a question and answer period, she handed out literature.

The roll call was taken with 52 members present.

Phyllis Smith and Charlene Fonda were there for their second visit and Patty Spindler was there for her first visit. After three meetings, they can become members.The report of the secretary was accepted as given. The report of the treasurer was given with a balance on hand of $l,840.34, which will be filed for audit.

For social, Barbara Thomas reported 39 signed up for this meeting's chicken parmesan luncheon and also 30 people have signed up for the Dec. 11 Christmas banquet which will take place at the Winner's Circle.

Furman reported on the last meeting of the Office for the Aging which she attended and also gave a reading.

This meeting was the last to sign up for the Vermont trip in December.

The members were reminded that dues are still due and the bylaw committee will meet sometime after the first of 2013.

The 50-25-25 raffle was drawn. The winners were Smith and Augie Augustine.

The meeting adjourned. The closing prayer by Taylor followed.

Bingo followed the luncheon.

On Nov. 27: Fonda and Smith were welcomed as new members, and Spindler was present for the second time and will become a member at the next meeting.
