Mrs. Dorotha W. Dye, 103, passed away December 7, 2012, at the Fulton Center. She was born August 26, 1909 in W. Clarksville, N.Y., daughter of the late Herbert and Gertrude Pierce Wightman. Mrs. Dye graduated Rich burgh High School and did teacher training at Wellsville, N.Y., and Red House where she teacher trained in a one room school house prior to obtaining her degree from Geneseo. Dorotha came to Gloversville in 1930 and taught elementary education at McKinley and McNab Schools, retiring from McNab School as a first grade teacher, in 1973.
Dorothy loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She played at the former First Presbyterian Church and the Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member for many years. She also enjoyed playing the piano at her 103rd birthday party. Dorothy was also a long time member of the New York State Teachers Association. A truly devoted teacher who loved her students, she will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her sons: Herbert E. Dye and Alan R. Dye both of Gloversville, her grandchildren; Dr. Michael Bridges, Daniel Bridges and great grandson Alden Bridges. Dorothy is also survived by her son-in-law William Bridges. She was pre-deceased by her daughter Gretchen A. Bridges, brothers Richard and Theodore Wightman and her sisters; Helen Beach, Florence Corwin and Ella Belle Monehan. Mrs. Dye was married to Keith B. Dye on May 31, 1935, he pre-deceased her in 1978.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday December 10, 2012 at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville, with Reverend Peter Ellis, Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church officiating.
