Mildred H. Lewis

Mildred H. Lewis went home to be with her Lord in heaven on Monday, December 10, 2012. She was at her home in Amsterdam; her loving family was by her side. She is the daughter of the late Edward and Maude Cleveland Briggs, born in Fultonville, N.Y. on May 23, 1929.

Mildred is a life time resident of the area and a graduate of the Fultonville High School. She married Frederick M. Lewis on October 16, 1948; they shared a beautiful union of 64 years. She worked at the A&P Grocery as a bookkeeper for some time until starting their family; she became a homemaker. She was a proud farmer's wife, caring for her children and their home. She was an excellent baker and cook, enjoyed gardening and canning and was a devoted person to her family and friends. Mildred was also a devout Christian, she coordinated many Bible studies and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a part of the Christian Women's Group in Johnstown for many years. She also had a great love for animals, especially the family's dog, Abby.

Mildred's loving family includes her husband, Frederick M. Lewis; sons, John P. Lewis, Timothy M. Lewis and Thomas (Liane) Lewis; daughter Kathleen A. (Eugene) Wright, all of Amsterdam; grandchildren, Stephen Wright, Patti Wright, Kevin Lewis, Mary Lewis and Joshua Lewis along with a great-granddaughter, Meghan Lavenia. She is also survived by many loving friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, December 13, 2012, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Fultonville, NY 12072. A funeral service will take place on Friday, December 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Fonda Reformed Church on Broadway in Fonda. The burial will follow at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville.
