Shirley A. Boynton, age 88, of Johnstown, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the Fulton Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Gloversville after a brief illness.
Mrs. Boynton was born on December 9, 1924, in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Frederick Hill and Alice Streeter Hill.
Shirley was a class of 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School. For over thirty years, she was employed as a secretary with the Grandoe Corporation until her retirement. Shirley dedicated many of her later years working with Literacy Volunteers. She was a longtime, faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gloversville.
Shirley was united in marriage on June 10, 1945, to Paul R. Boynton who passed in 1975.
She is survived by one son, Warren Boynton and his companion, Phyllis of Naples, Florida; one daughter, Paula Pelosi of North Fort Myers, Florida; three granddaughters, Wendy (Jim) Gray of Johnstown, Beth (Charles) Lancaster of Stafford, Virginia and Debbie (Sky) Notestein of Gainsville, Florida; and four great-grandchildren, Kailie Gray, Reagan Lancaster, Kayla Notestein and Kyle Notestein.
She was predeceased by one brother, Richard A. Hill, who passed on October 15, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 14, from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown, with Rev. Bonnie Orth officiating. Family and friends may call on Friday prior to the service from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda at the convenience of the family.
