AMSTERDAM - Fire forced the occupants of an apartment on West Main Street to evacuate early Thursday morning.
City Fire Chief Richard Liberti said a fire at 209 W. Main St. was called in at 4:43 a.m. Thursday, and eight people were displaced.
He said much of the damage was caused by water and smoke on the second floor, and the attic was damaged.
The origin of the fire was under investigation, Liberti said Thursday. The damage to the second floor was not a total loss, he said.
"It's certainly repairable," he said. The fire was extinguished by 5:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
