Mrs. Myrtle May VanHorne, 90, of Gloversville, passed away December 20, 2012. She was born March 27, 1922, in Presho, N.Y., daughter of the late Jesse and "Addie" Atwood. Mrs. VanHorne worked on the family farm for many years as a young adult. She was a waitress in Rathbone, N.Y., for a short time and was a very devoted homemaker most of her life. Her greatest joy was her family and baking for them. She always kept family very close.
Earlier in life, Myrtle enjoyed Stanley Home Products and Friendly Toy parties. Recently, she had been a patient at the Wells Nursing Home where she enjoyed many friendships, especially during bingo and wham-o with the "Golden Girls".
Her loving family include her children: Susan Eagan of Roanoke, Va., Myrtle Thomas of Gloversville, Paul VanHorne, with whom she resided for many years in Gloversville, David VanHorne of Johnstown, Hiram VanHorne of Avoca, N.Y., Ronie VanHorne of Canisteo, N.Y., and Clifford VanHorne of Gloversville. She also is survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, stepchildren, nieces and nephews. Myrtle was pre-deceased by three children, Nathan VanHorn, Johnny VanHorn and Linda Kinard, as well as brothers, Clarence, Don and Jesse Atwood.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 22, 2012, (today) from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. Contributions in memory of her beloved son, Johnny, may be made to the CJ Foundation for SIDS, 30 Prospect Ave., Hackensack, N.J. 07601. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family.
