Chelsea Benson, the daughter of Andrew Benson of Amsterdam and Janet Benson of Oregon, was united in marriage to Nicholas Verdugo, the son of Audrey Verdugo of Mount Dora, Fla. and Gustavo Verdugo of Eustis, Fla. at 2:30 p.m. July 21.
The ceremony took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, N.C.
The bride was escorted by her father and her mother.

The maid of honor was Nicole Hammond of Johnstown, sister of the bride. The bridal attendants were Allison Verdugo of Florida, Kathy Dempster of Maryland, Elizabeth Leggett and Ruth Mulligan, both of North Carolina. The flower girl was Arden Hammond, niece of the bride.
The best man was Steven Swarts of Tennessee. The groomsmen were Shawn Perry of Florida, Michael Dempster of Maryland, Robert Monroe and Thomas Rechichar, both of North Carolina. The ringbearer was Hunter Dempster, nephew of the bride.
A reception took place at Stone Chimney Place, Supply, N.C.
A wedding trip took place in Negril, Jamaica. The couple resides in Leland, N.C.
The couple met while the bridegroom was in the U.S. Marine Corps in Jacksonville, N.C. The bridegroom is completing his bachelor's degree in operations management at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
