Friday was a special day in Gloversville for many. The "Santa Project" was undertaken by the Gloversville High School Class of 2013, as it has been for decades by each senior class at GHS. The objective of this project is to spread joy to each Gloversville elementary school, several day-care centers, nursing homes, the senior citizen center and Lexington Center through Christmas (and Chanukah) songs.
Objective accomplished. Our wonderful students were outstanding as they sang, gave out candy, sat and chatted with elementary schoolers, offered comfort and peace to our elderly and differently abled, and even impressed our new superintendent who told us he'd never seen such spirit. Our GHS "elves" made us proud - and a special and sincere thank you to our "Santas" Sam Mustafa and Kyle Casimiro for embodying the spirit of the season in everything they said and did all day long. Thanks to Tracy Diviyak for lending us a suit at the last minute and to Bill Trojan for photographing the kids.
It's our hope other area schools might undertake a similar endeavor next year. We'd be happy to help you in any way we can. The benefits to all involved are infinite. We're so proud of our students, so touched by their spirit of giving, and we wanted to share that with our community.
