Lorraine Dubonnet Pearo, age 70, of Lakeview Road Broadalbin, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Mountain Valley Hospice after a courageous fifteen year battle with cancer.
She was born in Gloversville on July 31, 1942, a daughter of Eugene C. and Charlotte Weaver Dubonnet, and graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1960 at Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School. Lorraine was class president, editor of the yearbook, a member of the student council, and was awarded the DAR Good Citizenship Award as well as the Bausch and Lomb Science Award. She attended Oneonta Sate University.
Lorraine began her career at New York Telephone as a drafts person in Menands and then worked for General Telephone and Contel, holding various positions primarily in the human resource field until her retirement in 1994. After her retirement from General Telephone with thirty years of service, she accepted a secretarial position at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Her confidentiality, dedication, and being responsible made her a pleasure to work with.
Lorraine was a member of the Sacandaga Boating Club in Broadalbin, and enjoyed boating, fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing, the ballet, and classical music.
On November 24, 1962, she married Phillip Pearo at the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin. He died March 30, 1984. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Veola Dubonnet Briggs; a brother-in-law, Raymond Briggs; and her father-in-law, Lewis Pearo.
Survivors include her companion, Alva H. Roice of Broadalbin; a brother, Eugene A.C. (Ednamae) Dubonnet of Ephratah; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Pearo of Gloversville; her sister-in-law, Phyllis (Leo) Przybylo of Amsterdam; her brother-in-law, R. Daniel Pearo of Wilton; many nieces and nephews including Joni (Bernard) Braun, Lori (Michael) Harrington, John (Tonya) Briggs, Joel (Kathleen) Briggs, James (Sandy) Briggs, Raymond Briggs Jr., Eugene (Andrea) Dubonnet, Thaya (Todd) Pekola, Maureen (Kent) Costa, Andrea (John) Battle, and John Przybylo; as well as several cousins.
Lorraine's family and her many friends will miss her deeply. Our angel has gone home. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown, with Linda Eastman, trustee of the Hemlock Independent Gospel Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or to a charity of choice, in care of the funeral home.
