DOLGEVILLE - Firefighters battled a blaze for more than five hours at a one-story home Monday after receiving a call about a porch fire at 7624 Route 29.
Firefighters from Hilltop, Dolgeville, Ephratah, Oppenheim, Rockwood-Garoga-Lassellsville and Salisbury volunteer fire departments were on the scene.
A firefighter with Hilltop said when they arrived soon after receiving the call at 4:08 a.m., the fire had spread to the rest of the house.
Responders to the fire said the home will no longer be habitable.
"The roof's all caved in," said Roger Cromer of the Dolgeville fire department. "It's gutted all out. It's a total loss."
Two adults and two children lived in the house. The American Red Cross provided the family with financial assistance for food and clothing, a news release said.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury, but didn't need to be transported from the scene.
