Laws fail to address issues

January 22, 2013
The Leader Herald

I've carefully reviewed the proposed gun-control laws. Looking at them from the perspective of a police officer, now retired, I can only conclude the current proposed anti-gun laws have no bearing on crime prevention, criminal control or mental heath issues. Every law proposed is directed to controlling or criminalizing law-abiding citizens, or depriving them of property.

Why is it that Albany and Washington, D.C., mainly the Democrats, are afraid to address criminals, mental illness and crime control? What are they afraid of in addressing these issues? Why is it that the law-abiding have to suffer from actions of criminals and the mentally ill? Justice isn't just for the criminal, it is for all equally.
