Shirley Jean Fish of Mayfield passed away peacefully January 28, 2013, at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville. Her loving family was by her side.
Born in the town of Root on November 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late George and C. Anna McMillen Watson.
Shirley grew up in the hamlet of Rural Grove and was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. Shirley was employed most of her life at Coleco and Hasbro Industries in Amsterdam, most recently a housekeeper for the Home Health Care Partners of Amsterdam. She is a former member of the Moose Lodge in Johnstown; loved NASCAR and enjoyed going to the Fonda Speedway every Saturday night. She was an avid sports fan and liked the Dodgers and the Dolphins. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her eyes would light up and her spirit would brighten to see her grandkids, especially Elizabeth Brownell and Hunter Hayes.
Her loving family includes: her children, Albert Brownell Jr. (June) of Mayfield, James Brownell (Cheryl) of Fonda, John Brownell (Pauline) of Fort Plain, Timothy Brownell of Johnstown, Cheryl Clemons (Tom) of Mayfield, Judy (George) Baker of Amsterdam, Robin Snell and her companion, John of Troy and Pamela Brownell of Edinburg; along with stepchildren Robert Fish of Tribes Hill, Lorraine Post of Maine and Bonnie Tydlack of Florida. She is also survived by her sisters, Anna Mae Rickard of Charleston and Margaret "Peggy" Rogers of Canada. She is also survived by her beloved 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Thomas Brownell; sisters, Katherine Thompson and Dorothy Ward; and great-granddaughter, Katerina Blyss Lotman.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, January 31, 2013, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville NY 12072. A funeral service will follow beginning at 3 p.m. The Rev. Bonnie Orth will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.
