Man’s hope lies in redemption of Christ

January 31, 2013
The Leader Herald

What is hope? "Hope is a pillar that holds up the world. Hope is the dream of a waking man," according to Pliny The Elder.

Jesus, my Lord and Savior, showed mankind hope by suffering on a cross, dying and then resurrecting from the grave.

Man's only hope lies in the redemption of Christ. Through Christ's redemption man has: No. 1., forgiveness of all his sins; No. 2., man has freedom to walk in newness of life; No. 3., man's relationship to God is no longer fractured; No. 4., man has an abiding, everlasting friendship with God; No. 5., man and God are no longer foes; No. 6., man and God have a close fidelity to one another; No. 7., out of loyalty to man, God bestows his mercy and grace and man shows his loyalty by offering thanksgiving and praise to God by our Lord's gracous, unmerited favor.

Man's only hope lies in the resurrection of Christ. No. 1., because of Christ's resurrection, man has a heavenly home. No. 2., because of Christ's resurrection, man can abide in newness of humanity No. 3., because of Christ's resurrection, man has the fruit of love, joy, peace and humility.

Man's only hope lies in a relationship with Christ. No. 1., because of a relationship with Christ, man can communicate to the heavenly father. No. 2., because of a relationship with Christ, man can experience Christ's compassion. No. 3., Christ is man's everyday, abiding companion whom man can talk and listen to. No. 4., prayer is an essential quality in a relationship with God.

Finally, man's hope lies in repentance. Every man is an estranged prodigal to Christ. Every man is an enemy of Christ prior to conversion. Our only hope is lying in Christ's restoration. No. 1., the bridge is gapped between sinful man and a holy God. No. 2., the belligerance that man feels to God is replaced by love. No. 3., the bellicose attitude that comprises man is replaced by submission to God. No. 4., a benign attitude toward God replaces a malignant feeling toward God.

Happy new year.
