Robert Duesler, 62, of Jackson Vly Road, Broadalbin, died Sunday evening, February 24, 2013, at St. Mary's Healthcare with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Amsterdam on August 20, 1950, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Duesler was employed at H & J Leather and later at Townsend Leather in Johnstown, retiring due to disability in 2005.
Bob was a member of Perth Bible Church and was lead singer and guitarist in the praise and worship group Heaven Bound. He enjoyed singing at the Chapel of the Saratoga Racetrack and at area nursing homes.
Bob enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Bob was best known for his quotation of: "It's not how you start your life but how you finish your life that counts." This message served as inspiration for many family members.
He was predeceased by his stepfather, Richard Demerest.
Survivors include: his wife, Marlene Wittemeyer Duesler; his mother, Vera Demerest of Broadalbin; two sons, Edward (Michele) Blake and William (Trina) Blake, all of Johnstown; two daughters, Karyn (Roger) Eglin of Amsterdam and Robyn (Todd) Eglin of Perth; two brothers, Mark (June) Duesler of Mayfield and Bernard Mahar of Broadalbin; thirteen grandchildren, Marc, Michael, Jonathan, Eric, Jordan, Heather, Brandon, Brian, Thomas, Abigail, Patrick, Tanner, and Loryn; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Skylar, Adisen, and Michael; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A celebration of Bob's life will take place on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Perth Bible Church, 1863 County Highway 107, Amsterdam, with Pastor Mark Appell and Pastor Roger Ellison and will be followed by a reception. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mission Fund at Perth Bible Church. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 Johnstown.
