Najla Farhart passed away on February 24, 2013, at the age of 84 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Gloversville, New York, to Mary and Fred Farhart on September 1, 1928.
She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1946 and attended SUNY Cortland, receiving her B.A. in 1951. After graduating from college, Naj moved to Binghamton to accept a teaching position in the Chenango School District. She taught sixth grade there for over 30 years until her retirement in 1983.
Naj made a lasting impression on many of her students, as is evidenced by the numerous letters, calls and visits she received from them over the years. Following retirement, Naj became an avid golfer and also enjoyed tennis, bowling and bridge. In addition, she spent summers at her cottage on Lake Petonia, where many happy memories were made and shared with her family and friends.
Naj is survived by: her sister, Sister Lamese Farhart, CSJ, of Latham, New York; five nieces and nephews, eight grandnieces and grandnephews and four great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, all of whom loved and cherished the time spent with their dear aunt. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends. Naj was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Olga; and her brother, Edward.
Friends may call at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home on Friday, March 1, from 4 p.m. through 7 p.m.
