Mayfield man faces new charge

March 4, 2013
The Leader Herald

GLOVERSVILLE - City police said a man who was previously charged with murder - that charge was later dropped - was arrested Feb. 19.

Derek A. Kenney, 43, of Mayfield was charged on North Main Street by city police with disorderly conduct.

Police said Kenney was yelling and cursing in public and kicked a sign in front of Cumberland Farms multiple times.

Kenney was held and arraigned in City Court.

Kenney was previously charged with second-degree murder in July 2010 after police said he fatally stabbed Brian Morrison on Bleecker Street. The charges were later dropped after Kenney's attorneys argued grand-jury proceedings against Kenney were tainted because witnesses lied.

No one else has been charged in Morrison's death.

In July, Kenney sued the Gloversville Police Department, and several of its officers, in federal court, claiming his rights were violated.
