GLOVERSVILLE-The Gloversville Enlarged School District Middle School was put on lockdown around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, a school official said, after rumors surfaced a student allegedly had a weapon in the school.
In a letter posted to parents on the district website, Superintendent Michael Vanyo said the lockdown lasted about 10 minutes, until administrators deemed there was no actual threat or weapon.
Vanyo also said the teachers and staff followed district protocol, keeping students inside classrooms and behind closed doors, until the lockdown was lifted.
"I am happy to report that no students or staff members were actually in danger," Vanyo wrote in the letter. "Be assured that we always take any threat of safety seriously."
City Police Chief Donald VanDeusen said Wednesday his department was not contacted regarding the temporary lockdown.
