George M. Ecker of Port Orange, Florida, born Aug. 26, 1935, died March 14,2013, at Ormond Memorial Hospital, Ormond Beach, Florida after a short illness. He was the son of the late Francis and Katherine Ecker, former Mayfield residents.
George attended Mayfield Central School. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s and was honorably discharged. He was employed by the former Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam and by the Gloversville Water Works, retiring after 28 years. Following retirement, he moved to Florida. During his stay there he helped build and was a member of the Halifax Sport Fishing Club and the Volusia County Skeet and Trap Gun Club.
He is survived by: his wife, Phyllis Ecker of Port Orange, Fla., whom he met after moving to that area. Other survivors include his three children, Kelly Lawlor (Michael) of Gloversville, Timothy Ecker of St. Augustine, Fla. and Michael Ecker (JoEllen) of Albany, N.Y.; grandchildren, Joseph Lawlor (Shanna), Andrew Lawlor (Kathleen), Caitlin Lawlor, Brendan Ecker and Robert Sipe; sister, Darla Ecker of Albany, N.Y.; and brother, Francis Ecker (Judy) of Port Orange; several nieces, nephews and cousins; several stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Harold Ecker.
A memorial service will be held at the Haigh-Black Funeral Home in Ormond Beach on March 19,2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
