H.S. Softball Roundup: South Glens Falls rolls past Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN - The Lady Bills jumped out to a quick 2-0 first-inning lead before losing 16-2 to South Glens Falls in a Foothills Council softball game Monday.

However, South High pushed seven runs across the plate in the top of the third and pulled away for the victory.

Johnstown (1-3 overall, 0-2 Foothills) was led by Lexi Swatt who was 3 for 3 on the day with a double, while Ellen Praught added a two RBI single.

Sam Hubinsky had a pair of singles and two runs scored for the Bulldogs (5-0 overall, 2-0 Foothills), while Richelle Bock had a single, two RBIs and two runs scored.

HUDSON FALLS - The Huskies scored three runs on two hits in their league opener against the Tigers.

Hudson Falls came up with seven fifth-inning runs to break open a tie game.

GALWAY - The Lady Cougars took advantage of eight Galway errors and held off a late-game rally for the victory.

Taylor Fancher tripled and singled for Canajoharie, while Brittany Pitonza and Shy Logan both doubled and had two singles apiece and Lauren Balfe connected for two doubles.

Sabrina Williams led Galway with two doubles and two singles, while Ariann Ceroalo had three singles and an RBI and Rebekah Reichard doubled and singled.

FORT PLAIN - A quartet of Fort Plain batters had perfect days against Sharon Springs.

Abby Boyer, Allehah VanLoan, Kendra Trembley and Haley Kilmartin all went 4 for 4 on the day.

Boyer had three singles and a double, while VanLoan, Trembley and Kilmartin had four singles apiece. Jamie Fredericks added a double for the Lady Hilltoppers.

Erin Nellis struck out four for Fort Plain.

Sarah Green, Marjie Entrolezo, Renee Handy and Samantha Jackson had singles in the first inning.

MAYFIELD - Lady Panthers' pitcher Anna Husain struck out six but it was not enough as Duanesburg hammered out 12 hits for the WAC victory.

Maria Messina had a single and two RBIs for Mayfield, while Husain, Lisa Hime, Nicole Little and Mackenzie Biggers all singled.

Tessa Bloom doubled for Duanesburg, while Hannah McGuire had four singles and an RBI.

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Spa Catholic rallied for three runs in its final at bat to defeat the Lady Saints.

Sloan Conners hit a game-tying two run home run and Myah Ondreyko doubled in the winning run for Spa. Ondreyko also had a two-run homer in the sixth.

AMSTERDAM - Bailey Archinal connected for a solo home run to account for Amsterdam's lone run in a Big 10 game at Shuttleworth Park.

Schenectady pitcher Rachel Rose allowed four hits and struck out 15 to improve the Lady Patriots to 2-0 in the league.
