Area golfers compete in Corning tourney

CORNING - On Sunday, eight Capital District junior golfers participated in the George Douglas Memorial Junior Golf Invitational at Corning Country Club in Corning.

The tournament was held at the site of the former LPGA Tour event, the Corning Classic.

Josh Fonda, a junior from Gloversville, shot 81 to tie for 17th in the 74-player field. Broadalbin-Perth sent three golfers to the tournament: freshman Alex Bond shot 85 (the fourth best score by a ninth grader), sophomore Brett Getman shot 89, and Noah Scott (one of only two eighth graders to compete) shot 100. Northville's Jordon Fordyce, a sophomore, also shot 100.

David Wellington (Burnt Hills - junior) shot 78, Alex Gibson (Glens Falls - sophomore) shot 80, while Wyatt Gorham (Hudson Falls - junior) shot 87.
