LOUDONVILLE - Broadalbin-Perth graduate Matt Gage, a sophomore on the Siena College baseball team, was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week Monday.
Gage threw a complete-game shutout in the Saints' 4-0 win over Canisius on Sunday in Loudonville, one of the top efforts in the league this season.
Gage went all nine innings against the Griffs, struck out four and walked just one. He never allowed a Canisius player to reach third base, and threw 76 of his 107 pitches for strikes. Gage retired the side in order in the second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings, and faced just four men over the minimum.
Gage lowered his season ERA to 3.29 and his MAAC ERA to a team-best 1.72.
Gage and the Saints travel to Saint Peter's for three-game MAAC set this weekend before hosting defending champion Manhattan May 16-17 to close out the regular-season. The Saints need four wins in their final six games to clinch a spot in this year's MAAC Championships, set for May 23-25 in Trenton, N.J.
