Mini-golf fundraiser was success, librarian says

JOHNSTOWN - The Johnstown Public Library's 17th annual fundraiser on April 20 involving mini golf at the library was a "huge success," library Director Erica Wing said Monday.

In a report to the Common Council, Wing said the family event involving Johnstown Classic mini golf played at the library and the raffle of more than 50 book-themed baskets drew much attention.

"It was a great day," Wing said. "We had so many people come out to support us."

Wing said Wednesday invoices from the fundraiser are still being tallied. She said she probably won't have a final figure to release on how much was raised until the council's next meeting May 20.

She thanked many for their help and months of planning for the event, which annually pays for library services.

Elsewhere in her report, Wing said her facility will offer financial programming through May. It is Money Smarts Month at the library. The library will offer an NBT Bank program, "Planning for Retirement," at 6:30 p.m. May 16. A New York State 529 College Savings Program informational session presented by UPromise will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. May 29.

"We're still booking programs," Wing told the council.

Wing also reported her facility's Landscaping Day will be conducted at 7 a.m. Saturday on the library grounds. The day is set aside for volunteers and library staff to help with landscaping and gardening to beautify the library grounds.
